Toyota Fortuner to get INR 1.2 lakh cheaper with GST in effect
The second-gen Toyota Fortuner was launched in India at INR 25.92 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in November last year and now starts at INR 26.66 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). According to a report from RushLane, prices of the Fortuner will reduce by up to INR 1.2 lakh with the GST implementation next month. The SUV’s prices were hiked only last month, and this could mark the very first instance of the Fortuner’s price dropping (disregarding dealer discounts) since the launch of the nameplate in 2009.
The effective GST on passenger vehicles measuring over 4 metres in length and having engines bigger than 1,500 cc in displacement is 43%, which includes 28% GST and 15% cess. Currently, 55.3% tax is levied on SUVs in India. The Fortuner diesel 4X4 AT, currently priced at INR 31,86,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), will see a price reduction of INR 1.2 lakh, as per the report.
Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Ford have already slashed their model prices to post-GST levels to avoid inventory pile up, but Toyota is yet to make an announcement on the updated prices. Currently, the Toyota Fortuner is priced from INR 26.66 lakh for the petrol model and from INR 28.66 lakh for the diesel model. Six different configurations are available, two with the 2.7-litre Dual VVTi petrol engine good for 166 PS and 245 Nm of torque and four with the 2.8-litre diesel engine that develops 177 PS and 420 Nm (6MT)/450 Nm (6AT) of torque. The petrol model is offered with 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission choices.
Bi-Beam LED projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, puddle lamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights, power tailgate, 8-way power adjustable driver seat, dual-zone climate control, large TFT MID with navigation turn display, 7.0-inch capacitive touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, DVD player and 6 speakers, seven airbags and Downhill Assist Control are some of the key features of the Toyota Fortuner. IAB awaits a response from TKM on the impact of GST on Fortuner prices.
